דניאל קצנשטיין
Daniel Katzenstein works in the PR department of United Hatzalah of Israel (Ihud Hatzalah). On October 8 he joined the United Hatzalah field hospital at Heletz junction. Upon arrival, he was directed to a soldier who was experiencing an acute stress reaction after witnessing his friend being shot in the face and killed. Trained to handle such situations, Daniel firmly told the soldier: “I am the commander now, and you need to listen to me.” His words had an effect. Over time, as Daniel reassured the soldier that the incident was over, that he was safe, and that Daniel would stay with him, the soldier gradually calmed down. Eventually, he picked up his weapon and rejoined his unit. Daniel also highlights the remarkable work of Gitty Beer, who was assigned to “the hardest of the hardest cases,” involving life-and-death decisions. He expresses his deep admiration for the unity of the volunteers—people of diverse backgrounds, origins, and religions—who all acted together that day. “The tide was turned by the little people,” he reflects.
