Deborah Mintz who immigrated to Israel from England, spent the week at Nirim, visiting her daughter, Amy, and son-in-law, Uriel, and attending the Brith of her newborn grandson, Kai. She brought along her beloved Pincher Mickey. She planned to leave on Saturday, but in the morning the family woke up to Red Alert and rushed to the safe room. Mickey and the family's cats stayed out. When terrorists got into the house, Amy and Uriel held the safe room's door handle to stop them from getting in while Deborah held Kai. When the terrorists couldn't get in they decided to burn down the house, killing the pets that were there. Realizing what happened, Deborah went into a shock. When the smoke reached the safe room, it was clear the family's only chance to survive was to jump out through the window. They jumped out with the 10-days old baby and were rescued by soldiers. Months later, Deborah, who planned to spend her retirement years in Nirim, is deeply traumatized. She doesn't know if she'll ever be able to go back.
